WILL
IT BE NECESSARY TO TESTIFY IN COURT?
The
custodial party may have to appear in court to give testimony
when a trial or hearing is necessary, paternity is at issue
or a criminal complaint has been filed. If so, he/she will
be advised by a child support attorney, who will explain the
court proceedings. It is important to cooperate with the attorney
handling the case and to give full and truthful information.
Both parents will need to bring financial information to the
court. This information will most likely include pay stubs
and/or copies of tax returns. Many cases that are set for
trial result in settlement at the last moment. If that happens,
testimony will not be needed.
